Alfa Romeo will present its 2017 Tipo 949 D-SUV Stelvio 2017
Known for his iron will and non-standard solutions, Sergio Marchionne (head of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles), shared the name of the first crossover model in the history of the Alfa Romeo brand.
New car, previously known under the indexTipo 949 D-SUV, will be named in honor of the pass Stelviolocated in northern Italy. The pass is the second largest in the Alps and is located at an altitude of 2.755 km above sea level. Television car project Top Gear described this section of the route as “the most driving place on the whole planet”.
This information has not yet been officially confirmed - the head of the company allegedly made such a statement at a meeting with the employees of the Alfa Romeo enterprise before starting production work on making a new crossover.
It is also known that the new SUV will be developed on the Giorgio platform by engineers from Italy. This platform was actively used by the company to create its latest creations.
In terms of overall performance, the new crossover will be similar to the X3 model from BMW or slightly exceed its dimensions in order to attract consumers with the offer of “more cars for the same price”.
New car design by Alfa Romeo
Apparently, the new crossover will be made in the sports style, in the same design as the recently introduced Giulietta sedan, with the classic shape of the radiator grille and massive defiant front bumper.
The car has already been seen under reliable camouflage on the test races and some of his pictures hit the Internet. In the photos you can see that the windshield is located at a very acute angle, the roof has a soft slope, the line of door glass is bent upwards from behind. Also catches the eye with the original solution with rear lighting, which flows to the side area of the body.
Italians are confident that Stelvio will seriously compete with German crossovers, and the company's sales will increase to record levels.
Technical features of the crossover Stelvio 2017
The engine range will include petrol and diesel four-cylinder power units. The standard engine for Stelvio 2017 will be the engine of Giulia - a four-cylinder, two-liter 276-horsepower turbocharged engine.
The top is a turbocharged three-liter V6 engine, which, thanks to a high-performance turbocharger system, is capable of producing about 500 hp. maximum power.
The manufacturer has promised that the crossover will have excellent dynamics - this applies to both the acceleration to the first "hundred" and the time to overcome the circle of the Nurburgring. At the moment, the fastest all-terrain vehicle “Northern Loop” - Ranger Rover Sport SVR, which runs this section in 494 seconds.
I would like to remind you that the Giulia QV accelerates to “hundred” in 3.9 seconds, and the peak speed falls at 305 km / h. The new Alfa Romeo crossover will lag a little behind this model in its performance.
Basic configuration this model will be equipped with rear-wheel drive system, and all-wheel drive layout will be available only as an option. The front end of the suspension will receive a double-lever design in the front and a multi-link rear, as well as adaptive brakes as an option.
The top car modifications will be equipped with a Brembo brake system, on the front axle of which four-piston monoblocks will be located.
Depending on the configuration, the crossover will be equipped with an eight-speed ZF “automatic” or six-speed manual gearbox.
A bit of history
The history of Alfa dates back to 1906, when Alexandre Darracq founded a subsidiary of his company in Paris to manufacture licensed car brands. The branch was named the open company of the French.
And already from this company the automobile production “ALFA” developed in 1910, the working capacity of which was transferred to the town of Portello, near Milan.
Presentation and start of car sales
The presentation of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio 2017 model year will be held at the Paris Motor Show this fall, and the start of sales of the crossover is scheduled for next year.
I would like to note that the plans of the Italian brand, by 2020, will add to the Alfa Romeo model line two more new crossovers, one of which will be full-sized.
There is also information that next year this manufacturer will receive a flagship sedan of the “F +” class, after that two sports models will be developed, one of which will be a direct heir to the Alfa Romeo 8C.
