Ellen Page and Julianne Moore Play Lesbian Lovers in ‘Freehold’
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Ellen Page announced that she is gay to the Time to THRIVE conference in Las Vegas.
“I’m here today because I am gay. And because…maybe I can make a difference,” she told the crowd at the conference that promotes issues of the gay community. “I’m tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission. I suffered for years because I was scared to be out.”
Page explained the pain she went through because of her sexuality.
“My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered,” she said. “And I’m standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain.”
Since her speech, the 26-year-old has received tons of support. “Ellen Page” had been tweeted over 192,000 times since her announcement and celebrities have been offering their support. Actress Kate Mara even asked Page to be her Valentine.
