Loader. Loader classification
A small educational program on the types of loaders.
In modern special equipment, with its steady trend towards universalization of manufactured machines, the loader is a somewhat twofold concept. On the one hand, it is a hoisting machine. On the other hand, there are vehicles that allow loading and unloading, and there are loaders allowing to perform transportation functions. 1) The main factor allowing to divide loaders by type is the method of loading the cargo. Here, the following are distinguished: a) front bucket loaders allowing work with bulk material and: b) fork loaders with an L-shaped platform, allowing work with different kinds of containers, barrels, boxes, etc.
Bucket loaders are used by various construction and installation companies, utilities companies, while forklift trucks are used by logistics, wholesale and retail companies, and warehouse departments of enterprises.
Several cranes stand apart: truck cranes, tower cranes and various kinds of jaw loaders: logger, pipe layer, etc.
2) The second determining factor of classification is the type of drive: wheeled or tracked. The wheel drive is quite versatile, it is equipped with machines for working in indoor spaces, so it can also be made in the off-road version. Tracked drive is much more specialized to work in low terrain conditions. These are snow, mud, silt, sand, etc.
3) The third determining factor is the type of propulsion system: electric or internal combustion engine or diesel. Electric powered loaders are designed to work in premises, food processing and pharmaceutical industries. Diesel engines and loaders with an internal combustion engine are used throughout the entire spectrum of work in the open air, when working indoors their exhaust pipes must be connected to a special ventilation system. The factor of choice between a diesel engine and an internal combustion engine may be affected by the climate in the workplaces. As a rule, the operation of machines in regions with a long winter period is more laborious.
In addition to these three key factors of classification, loaders are graded:
a) by power, i.e. the maximum lifted weight of the load;
b) in cost: the price of loaders with the same characteristics can sometimes differ significantly from each other;
c) versatility: some loaders are designed strictly for one type of work, others can do the work of the whole fleet;
d) maximum height at which the load rises;
e) bucket loaders are divided by the type of continuous and cyclic action. In the first case, the loader is equipped with a multi-bucket mechanism, in the second case, the loader is equipped with one bucket
