Changes in the exam in English in 2018

Due to the fact that in the 2016-2017 season, significant changes were made to the CIMs of various subjects, many graduates and teachers are closely watching the news.

We are in a hurry to form - in 2018, the structure of examinations in foreign languages will not be changed. Only minor amendments and clarifications will be made to the content of the CIM.

As in the past year, the structure of the EGE 2018 in English will consist of two blocks:

  • written part;
  • oral part.

Oral and written examinations will be held on different days!

The structure of the writing

The written part of the exam consists of 40 tasks, divided into 4 sections:

  • listening (questions 1-9);
  • reading (questions 10-18);
  • letter (questions 19-38);
  • vocabulary and grammar (questions 39-40).

180 minutes are allowed for work.

It is worth considering that there are no tests in new tickets. The simplest are now the questions with a short answer (specifying a number, letter or word).

Tickets are built on a multi-level basis and include tasks that correspond to the three main levels of proficiency in English for countries in which it is not native:

  • A2 +
  • IN 1
  • AT 2

The high level (B2) includes tasks that require a full understanding of the text read, as well as item 40 from the “Letter” block - a short essay with a reasoning on a given topic.

The structure of the oral part

The oral part of the exam (speaking) takes place in specially equipped language laboratories or computer classrooms, where each seat is equipped with a special headset. The test takes only 15 minutes. During this time, the student must demonstrate an understanding of speech and the ability to engage in dialogue.

Counting points exam in English

For the successful completion of the written part of the graduate can score a maximum of 80 primary points. For the delivery of the oral part - another 22 points. When calculating the total score, the results are summarized.

In 2018, when grading for the EGE in English, the primary points will be transferred to the five-point system according to the table:

Subject

2 (not passed)

3

4

5

English

0–21

22–58

59–83

84 and more

It should be borne in mind that the minimum threshold of delivery (22 points) does not allow entry into the university, but is only a necessary condition for obtaining a certificate. For information about the minimum passing scores in the subjects required for entry into a particular department of your chosen university, look not at the official website of the educational institution.

Preparing for the exam 2018 in English

Preparing for the exam in English

Most of the teachers set up high school students that they need to decide on their future specialty and choose the desired institution of higher education in the 10th grade. This approach provides an opportunity to find out in advance which items need to be focused on successfully passing the EGE.

But even if the decision on passing the English language was made not so long ago, you have every chance to prepare well for the final test, because there is still more than half of the school year ahead.

Where to begin?

  • See the ticket structure and sample tasks.
  • Find your weak points and engage in self-education.
  • Practice and practice again.

On the net you can find many manuals that will help you repeat the basic rules and prepare well for the written part. Last year’s assignments will be irreplaceable in the preparation of trial versions of this year, because in 2018 the structure of the Unified State Examination tickets in English will not change.

Practice is required for the oral exam. You can get it by enrolling in group training courses for the exam, or simply talking a lot with native speakers. But note that the exam will be offered a classic version of the language, and friends on the Internet may be carriers of different regional dialects.
